UK Singles Charts 26/08/2007 | Kanye West Still Number 1 - Sean Kingston At Number 2
August 26, 2007 by Dave Parrack
Kanye West proved his song title correct by staying at number 1 for the 2nd week running with ‘Stronger’. Sean Kingston has gone straight in at number 2 with the strangely catchy but otherwise utter crap ‘Beautiful Girls’. Now I know this guy is American, that much is clear from the video, but I know very little else.
I only heard this song for the first time 2 weeks ago, and my initial reaction was to laugh at it’s inanity. Since then it has a grown on me a little bit, but I still think it’s a pile of shite.
For starters it’s musical blasphemy to steal the riff from Ben E King’s ‘Stand By Me’ and use it lock stock and barrel on a crappy RnB track. Also, Sean Kingston sings more out of tune than me at a karaoke bar, which as any of my friends will attest is atrociously out of tune. Why is this guy a pop star? He’s shit.
Hard Fi go jump in to the Top 10 at number 7 with the brilliant ‘Suburban Knights’, a song which seems to be growing in popularity as the release of the album ‘Once Upon A Time In The West’ comes ever closer.
Amy Winehouse‘ record sales aren’t suffering despite her recent troubles. In the last week she has had to cancel her American tour because of a “need to rest” and then had a massive fight with her hubby which ended with both bloody and battered.
Her latest single ‘Tears Dry On Their Own’ is still hanging in at number 17 though either despite of or maybe because of the press coverage she’s been receiving.

The Kaiser Chiefs are in at number 22, quite a poor showing seeing as its probably the best song off second album ‘Yours Truly, Angry Mob’. I always think of the Kaiser Chiefs as a sort of British Indie entry band, for those people who aren’t quite sure about the genre. Get in to the Kaisers and then move on past the mainstream poppiness to some harder stuff such as The Cribs or Arctic Monkeys.
Maximo Park are another band that will surely be disappointed with their latest single’s position in the UK Charts. ‘Girls Who Play Guitars’ has entered at number 33, even though it’s a fantastic single, which I reviewed a month ago.
