The X Factor 2009 – Week 4 – Jedward Beat Lucie Jones

November 8, 2009 by Dave Parrack

The X Factor 2009 has finally reached the business end, with the final 12 singing live every week until one is declared the winner. Week 4 saw Black Eyed Peas and Leona Lewis sing live. Black Eyed Peas were atrocious, proving once and for all their success is 100 percent style over substance. Leona proved once again her diva-esque qualities – no wonder she won the show a few years ago.

SIMON COWELL

But all of this paled into insignificance when the results were read out and the bottom two was comprised John and Edward vs. Lucie Jones. John and Edward, or Jedward as they’ve become collectively known, deserved their position but Lucie Jones surely didn’t. Lloyd Daniels, lucky to survive last week, should have been down there as well.

And then the unthinkable happened. After a sing off which saw Lucie struggle and Jedward obliterate Rock DJ by Robbie Williams, Simon Cowell pushed it to deadlock, with the public vote deciding who would be leaving. This being despite Cowell bemoaning Jedward being in the contest week after week. He had a chance to get rid of them and bottled it!

So, Lucie Jones, my favorite of the female singers, got booted out of the competition despite there being much worse acts left. And you know that Simon kept John & Edward in to gain more publicity for the show and to keep the Jedward campaigns rolling on. So much for a talent contest, this is now more about making money from phone votes.

Stacey Solomon

Looked uncomfortable on stage. Concentrated so much on moving a little that the singing suffered. Too quiet, very subdued, and not a big enough performance.

Olly Murs

Cheesy song choice for a cheesy man. Crappy dance moves overshadowed the average singing which left me felling cold. Simon’s novelty act could go far, at a Butlins holiday camp.

Lloyd Daniels

Should have gone last week, and didn’t improve this week. Started terribly and didn’t improve. Was in the wrong key for much of the performance. How is he still in it?

Jamie Archer

Slightly off-key. A strange arrangement of the Roy Orbison classic, Crying. Also screamed the chorus every time, which made him look desperate to impress. Only truly comfortable with rock songs.

Lucie Jones

Did a fair job with a song not known by all. A solid performance that failed to truly resonate like other weeks. A little static and a little dull but still deserved to stay.

Danyl Johnson

Good song, well sung. A little too reliant on backing singers but note perfect when you could hear him over them. best performance of the night and if The X Factor is about vocals then will surely win.

John & Edward

Embarrassing and cringeworthy. I can’t actually watch this s*** anymore; my eyes won’t take it. Novelty rubbish as it is every week. Who the frick is voting for these two talentless nobs?

Joe McElderry

Note-perfect but still a little boring and very forgettable… which is why I have nothing else to say.

  1. Steve (subscribed) says:

I think the results from last night were an absolute travesty. Even when Louis voted to save his act he did say that it was only because he needed to be loyal to his act that she was his vote to go home.

I believe that Simon knew who were in the final 2 and who had more votes out of Lucie and John & Edward.

He went to the public vote for 3 main reasons:
1 – He could claim that it was not him who kicked Lucie out, it was the British Public
2 – Publicity. He will have column yards and yards (not just inches) about this. He will therefore have so much publicity that he is expecting even more people to watch each week.
3 – Money. By loosing Lucie, he is in effect saying people did not vote enough for her, therefore to ensure your favorite act stays in the competition you need to vote more. Therefore more money to him.

The show is supposed to be all about the vocals, and this result was blatently not about them. I also believe that the twins were genuinely shocked to hear that they had been saved, and also guilty that Lucie was going.

There are two things I would like to see:

1 – When the judges go on stage in the live show, all are cheered, except for Simon. I would like there to be silence for him, we will get off on any attention otherwise. This to contine through out the show whenever he is on screen/ making comments.

2 – Unfortunately for his acts, I would like no-one to vote for them and leave them in the bottom 2 until they all go. Let him have no winners this year to teach him some humility.

  2. Yes it was good publicity for xfactor…but Lucie will still win in the end.

    FOXED ?

See who lasts longest after the show ends.
