Oasis - ‘The Shock Of The Lightning’ Music Video Review

September 6, 2008 by Dave Parrack

Oasis The Shock Of The Lightning

I’ve covered Oasis quite extensively here on Brit Music Scene in the run up to the release of their seventh studio album, Dig Out Your Soul.

While most of the coverage has unfortunately been about Noel Gallagher and Liam Gallagher’s attempts at gaining publicity (obviously successful) from slagging off their fellow musicians, it’s finally time for the music to do the talking.

Dig Out Your Soul isn’t out for another month (October 6th), but the first single from the album, The Shock Of The Lightning is preceding it. Here it is embedded below (after the cut) for your visual and aural pleasure, along with my thoughts on both the song and the video.

Oasis New Album ‘Dig Out Your Soul’ Previewed | YouTube Compilation Of Hits

Oasis Dig Out Your Soul Album Cover

There’s only two months left to wait until Oasis fans can get their hands on the new album, Dig Out Your Soul, due out on October 6th. A week before that, the first single from the album, The Shock Of The Lightning, will be released.

Oasis albums are a very mixed bag: some being must-owns full of classic indie tracks that any band would be proud to have written; others being pretty dire, repetitive and uninspired. You can usually tell which camp their new album is going to fall in to by the quality of the first single from that album.

Luckily for us, a snatch of that first single is previewed in an official trailer video for the album. The clip of The Shock Of The Lightning is right at the end, between 2:24 and 2:46, but the whole video is worth watching as it recounts all of the big hits through their career. Oasis’ New Album ‘Dig Out Your Soul’ Track Listing & Artwork - ‘Falling Down’ Leaked

July 14, 2008 by Dave Parrack

I have a love and hate relationship with Oasis. I love the music, or the bulk of it at least, but hate some of the attitude that comes from the band, with Liam Gallagher being the particular pain in the arse. Although, having said that, he seems to have been very quiet and subdued of late.

He could soon be back on his high horse, offending all and sundry, and being his usual surly self however, as the band prepare to release new album, Dig Out Your Soul. In advance of its October 7th release date, the full track listing, and cover artwork has been revealed.

Oasis Gallagher Brothers On Stage

I’m quite excited about the new album, as their last one, Don’t Believe The Truth, was a real return to form, and a brilliant album in its own right. Whether this, their seventh studio album, lives up to the last, or goes back to the relative failures of Be Here Now, and Standing on the Shoulder of Giants, remains to be seen.

Every Oasis album has had some stand out tracks though, and a few brilliant singles, so even if the album ends up being a critically-panned dud, we can at least look forward to a couple of hits.
