Robbie Williams Goes Charity Mad With Two New Singles
January 26, 2010 by Dave Parrack
Robbie Williams, like most established pop singers and artists, has earned enough money to be set up for life. He could retire tomorrow and never have to lower his quality of life. So it’s good to hear he, along with a swathe of other British music stars, is giving up his time and money for charity.
Just yesterday I reported how Radiohead had held a special, one-off gig to raise money and awareness for victims of the Haiti earthquake. While U2 and Sting were among those taking part in the Hope For Haiti Now concert event.
Radiohead Stage L.A. Gig For Haiti Earthquake Victims
January 25, 2010 by Dave Parrack
As you’re no doubt aware, Haiti has been left devastated by a massive earthquake near its capital Port-au-Prince a couple of weeks ago. The situation is grim, with thousands of casualties and hundreds of thousands of people left injured or affected.
Luckily, millions of dollars in aid has been raised and continues to be raised, with governments, celebrities, businessmen, and ordinary people contributing to the fund.
New Radiohead Album Getting Closer To Release
December 21, 2009 by Dave Parrack
Radiohead are one of the finest bands ever to have come out of the U.K. However, like all masters of their chosen art, they do like taking their sweet time over crafting their latest work, which will undoubtedly turn out to be a masterpiece.
It’s been a strange few months in terms of what has emerged from the Radiohead camp. For a time it looked as though the group wouldn’t be making any more albums, but that rumor was finally put to bed by Ed O’Brien’s reassurances in October.
John Lydon Labels Coldplay & Radiohead “Pointless”
December 18, 2009 by Dave Parrack
Rather than being known as Johnny Rotten, or a former Sex Pistol, or punk royalty, maybe John Lydon should come to be known as ‘Rent-a-quote’ from now on. It seems that the man is always ready with a barbed comment when asked a question by a journalist or reporter.
His latest saw him hating on Coldplay and Radiohead.
According to The Sun, Lydon recently commented:
“Coldplay and Radiohead bug the hell out of me because it’s so soulless. It just seems pointless. It’s nice, but it’s tosh. They don’t care about you. They care about lining their coffers. There’s nothing about heart and …read more
Radiohead Head Into Studio – Will Be Making New Album
October 9, 2009 by Dave Parrack
The last year or so has seen the odd little tidbit of information about the new Radiohead album revealed. In September 2008, the band claimed most of the album was already completed. And then in May, Colin Greenwood revealed they were at the stage where all the elements were in place and it was just a case of piecing it all together.
But August brought a strange aside when Thom Yorke claimed Radiohead wouldn’t be releasing any new albums, at least not for a long while. He claimed the band didn’t want to go through the rigmarole of recording a long …read more
Editors’ Tom Smith Talks Radiohead and Illegal Filesharing
October 7, 2009 by Dave Parrack
The issue of illegal filesharing of music has been much debated in recent weeks, thanks to a new effort by the British government to curb the activity. Lily Allen started a blog about the problem, but then got cold feet and walked away. While other artists are pushing for fairness and compromise in how the issue is dealt with.
Radiohead are a part of the Featured Artists Coalition which, although not fans of filesharing, are seeking for a better, longterm solution than the ones being proposed right now. And it was two years ago that Radiohead experimented with a different way …read more
Thom Yorke: No More Radiohead Albums… Maybe
August 13, 2009 by Dave Parrack
A new Radiohead album is always an event in the same way that a new Muse album is. They aren’t just a collection of songs thrown together at random, they are instead a carefully-constructed set of songs intended to give aural pleasure. A new Muse album is on the way, but it looks like we could have a long wait until the same can be said for a new Radiohead album. In fact, it could never arrive.
Radiohead took the world by storm when they released their last album, In Rainbows. Foregoing a traditional record company-backed release, the British band instead …read more
Radiohead Release New Single As Tribute To Harry Patch
August 6, 2009 by Dave Parrack
Every new Radiohead release, be it single or album, is treated with respect, purely because they are a band that deserves it. However, their latest release, a new single called Harry Patch (In Memory Of) deserves even more respect than usual. Not only is the song a tribute to the last British soldier from World War I to die, but the proceeds from its sale are all going to charity.
Harry Patch was the last British survivor to have fought in the trenches of World War I. He died on July 25 at the age of 111 after being the oldest …read more
Radiohead Talk New Album | Band Working On Follow-Up To Controversial ‘In Rainbows’
May 20, 2009 by Dave Parrack
Radiohead are, without doubt, one of the biggest groups to have emerged from the UK ever. They are unique in being a modern-day British band just as loved in the Stated as they are in their native country.
When the band released In Rainbows in 2007 they also became great innovators, being one of the first artists to try and use the power of the Internet rather than try and rally against the new ways of distributing music.
Now, Radiohead are well on the way to releasing their next album, the eagerly-awaited follow-up to In Rainbows. Back in September, Ed O’Brien revealed …read more
Grammy Awards 2009 – British Winners
February 9, 2009 by Dave Parrack
There’s one huge story obviously dominating news of the Grammy Awards 2009 – Chris Brown being arrested for allegedly assaulting Rihanna. But that’s been covered to the nth degree in various different places, and the full details have yet to emerge.
So, as is my remit here at Brit Music Scene, I’d like instead to focus on the good that came out of this year’s ceremony. Several British artists went home with awards on the night, and they deserve the plaudits they are receiving.
Last year’s Grammy Awards were all about one British artist in particular, with Amy Winehouse winning five honors. …read more
