The UK music charts may mean less now than they used to but they’re still an indicator of what’s hot on the popular British music scene right now. This week’s Top 10 singles and Top 10 albums are listed below.
This week’s U.K. singles chart sees Owl City retain the number one spot with Fireflies, while Iyaz and the cast of Glee swap places in two and three. The Tings Tings took the U.K. by storm with their debut album, We Started Nothing, released in May 2008. Some of the singles, especially Shut Up and Let Me Go, also hit big in the States. The Salford duo are currently working on their second album, and Jay-Z is to be involved.
According to the Daily Star, The Ting Tings have signed to the rapper’s record label Roc Nation. And as is his way, Jay-Z is keen to take an active interest in the group’s output. A source (if you believe there is such a thing in stories such as these) …read more

Speech Debelle Cancels US Tour Due To Visa Problems
October 10, 2009 by Dave Parrack
You may not have yet heard of Speech Debelle. I certainly hadn’t until she went and won the 2009 Mercury Music Prize in September, beating the likes Glasvegas, La Roux, and Florence and The Machine in the process. But she’s big on the British hip-hop scene and was due to take herself and her music over to the States for a tour this month.
Unfortunately, Debelle has had to cancel the gigs due to what NME calls “Visa problems.” Debelle isn’t the first artist to encounter such problems, with Amy Winehouse and Lily Allen also succumbing in recent years. Anyone would …read more

March 2, 2009 by Dave Parrack

Now, the gigs have been forcibly canceled due to the Chinese government revoking the band’s licenses to play. Oasis were deemed “unsuitable” to visit the country thanks to supposed links with the ‘Free Tibet’ movement.
