Keane Concert Becomes First Domestic 3D Broadcast In The UK Thanks To Sky TV

April 4, 2009 by Dave Parrack

Keane may not be the band they once were (maybe Tom Chaplin should get back on the sauce) but they have just made history. Their gig at the Abbey Road Studios on Thursday evening became the first event to be broadcast domestically in 3D.

3D has been with us for years - who can forget going to watch a movie and having to wear those stupid cardboard glasses - but it’s only now starting to be done properly. Many movies are now being made in 3D and the technology is on its way to television.

Sky is a British-based satellite television service which already offers a range of channels in high-definition and is now looking towards the future. With that in mind, the company has endeavored to be the first to broadcast in 3D.

While a full service won’t be available until at least Christmas, Sky has now sent a 3D broadcast over the airwaves and it chose a Keane concert to be the first transmission.

It Was 40 Years Ago Today… That The Beatles Played On Top Of Apple Building

January 30, 2009 by Dave Parrack

40 years ago today, the four members of The Beatles, plus guest keyboardist Billy Preston, played a concert on the roof of the Apple building in Saville Row, London. Although it was cut short, it’s still regarded as a momentous moment in music history.

By this time in their career, The Beatles weren’t getting on, with tensions producing some of the band’s best music in the studio, but putting paid to the notion of performing in public. This therefore ended up being the last gig the four played in public together.

The gig on the roof is now an iconic moment, but it wasn’t popular with the authorities at the time. The Metropolitan police stopped the show, first by pulling out the leads from George Harrison’s amps and then finally cutting power to the building altogether.

Oasis’ New Album ‘Dig Out Your Soul’ Track Listing & Artwork - ‘Falling Down’ Leaked

July 14, 2008 by Dave Parrack

I have a love and hate relationship with Oasis. I love the music, or the bulk of it at least, but hate some of the attitude that comes from the band, with Liam Gallagher being the particular pain in the arse. Although, having said that, he seems to have been very quiet and subdued of late.

He could soon be back on his high horse, offending all and sundry, and being his usual surly self however, as the band prepare to release new album, Dig Out Your Soul. In advance of its October 7th release date, the full track listing, and cover artwork has been revealed.

Oasis Gallagher Brothers On Stage

I’m quite excited about the new album, as their last one, Don’t Believe The Truth, was a real return to form, and a brilliant album in its own right. Whether this, their seventh studio album, lives up to the last, or goes back to the relative failures of Be Here Now, and Standing on the Shoulder of Giants, remains to be seen.

Every Oasis album has had some stand out tracks though, and a few brilliant singles, so even if the album ends up being a critically-panned dud, we can at least look forward to a couple of hits.
