Susan Boyle’s ‘I Dreamed A Dream’ Fastest-Selling Album?
November 24, 2009 by Dave Parrack
Wow. Whatever you may think of Susan Boyle – a fantastic singer plucked from obscurity or an average singer who got lucky – she is currently outselling everyone with her debut album I Dreamed A Dream. In fact, based on first day sales, it could end up being the fastest-selling debut album in the UK of all time.

Last week saw Amazon announce that I Dreamed A Dream had broken its record for the largest number of global CD pre-orders. The album was finally released on Monday (Nov. 23) and it’s already doing exceptionally well.
The Official Charts Company is reporting first-day sales of over 130,000 copies. According to the NME, that figure puts it on course to challenge the Arctic Monkeys’ debut album Whatever People Say I Am, That’s What I’m Not for the fastest-selling UK debut of all time.
Whatever People Say I Am, That’s What I’m Not racked up an impressive 363,735 copies in its first week of release in January 2006. Were the Arctic Monkeys to hold onto their crown, Susan Boyle is still almost guaranteed to beat JLS (230,000) as the fastest-selling UK album of 2009.
I personally cannot see the appeal of Susan Boyle at this stage. Sure, I was mesmerized along with everyone else after her first audition. But I’ve since realized she isn’t all that and her voice is average at best. Sorry, but that’s the truth as I see it.
