Spice Girls Cut World Tour Short | Australia, China, South Africa and Argentina Cancelled

February 1, 2008 by Dave Parrack

The Spice Girls have sensationally cut their world tour short, and cancelled the proposed gigs in Australia, China, South Africa and Argentina.

The official reason for calling a halt to proceedings much earlier than expected, is due to “family and personal commitments”, although I can suggest a few other, just as likely, reasons myself.

Spice Girls Cut World Tour Short!

The shows in Beijing, Sydney, Cape Town and Buenos Aires were originally scheduled for January, but then moved back to the extended 17 date run at the London 02 arena. Now they have been cancelled altogether.

In a statement on their official website, a spokesman for the group said:

“Sadly, the tour needs to come to an end by the end of February due to family and personal commitments for Emma, Geri, Mel B, Melanie C and Victoria.”

“Due to the phenomenal demand for tickets in the UK and the US, along with the touring logistics for such a massive production, it was not possible to fit everything in.”

So in effect, the Brits and Americans were desperate to see the girls oe last time, while the rest of the world really couldn’t give two shits, and so neglected to bother buying any tickets. That’s more than likely the truth.

There have been numerous reports over the past two months of a lack of demand for tickets on this last leg of the tour, and it seems, that made the girls realise it wasn’t worth their effort, and time away from their family.

There’s also the possibility that these cancellations are due to the old arguments, which effectively split the group up in the first place, re-emerging.

The girls did leave open the possibility of a future tour happening, although couldn’t quite commit themselves 100%. The statement finished with:

“Really sorry if we didn’t get to see you this time round. We all have other commitments in our lives now, but who knows what will happen next.”

Who knows indeed, but my guess would be they’ll all retire to the country to count the oodles of cash they’ve earned for three months work.

The tour will now end in Toronto on the 26th February.
