Radiohead Fan Video Becomes Official Reckoner Promo - Thom Yorke Impressed
October 3, 2008 by Dave Parrack

Radiohead are collaborating with their fans in ever more intriguing and interactive ways. Not only did they decide to give their album away for free, but they now seem to be regarding In Rainbows as belonging to the fans as much as it belongs to the band itself.
Such was the case with the new music video for Reckoner, which was actually made by a fan for a competition. The band liked the promo so much that they decided to make it the official video instead of just a contest winner. Thom Yorke was even impressed enough to give the video praise despite not quite being with it.
In a blog post unveiling the video on Dead Air Space, Yorke said:
hello
my mind is not functioning at the correct speed at the moment thanks to being in Tokyo
but however and here
is one of my favourite video things that has ever happened
for Reckoner it is, the result of somebody entering a competition to make an animation to one of the tunes on IN RAINbows.
on aniboom. you can scroll down dead air space and find all about it.. but anywayso we asked them whether it was ok to make it the official one we use as it goes with the song so well. they said yes.
and if you’re like me and find it hard to find videos on televsion any more, or even turn on the television you can watch right here.
ok now im going to fold some clothes.
If you say so Thom, if you say so. Here is the video in all its weird glory.
The song is a strange one, and so is the video, so they kind of go together extremely well. I like the moodiness and the colour scheme or lack of it, but it’s possibly a bit shallow for my liking.
I love how Radiohead are really making an effort to interact with their fans. If only some other music artists would do the same then we wouldn’t all feel quite so disconnected with the groups and singers we adore. And as Radiohead have proved, it’s not a one-way street - they got a free video out of it.
