Prince Contest Winner Reviews ‘Planet Earth’

Last month Prince gave his brand new album ‘Planet Earth’ away with a British newspaper. To celebrate this, I held a contest where one lucky reader of Brit Music Scene could win a copy of the album.
The lucky winner was JM from that little country they call Australia, and I dispatched the album to her forthwith. She’s now had the opportunity to listen to the album and has kindly written a short review of it for us…

When I received the Prince CD in the mail, one look at the cover had me wondering what kind of CD I had actually won. Somewhere in my past, I had learned I wouldn’t like Prince, though I don’t know when or from whom, but I reminded myself I hadn’t actually ever heard any Prince music.
I stuck it in my laptop.
This CD is a pleasant surprise. Unlike your usual CD with mostly one type of song (slow rock, fast country, songs about one thing or another) and then a random love song or slow song thrown in just to make sure you think the singer/band is creative, Prince does nothing of the sort.
His method of mixing pop songs with nice rhythm and blues style songs with throwing in a few other things just to keep you listening makes for a CD that works no matter what mood you’re in. You may only pop in this CD for one song or another, but you will be listening to it more than any regular ol’ CD because of it’s appeal to more than the usual two (anger and love, anger and sadness, upbeat and sad – depends on the genre music) ranges of mood you get from a lot of CDs.
Overall, this CD was a pleasant surprise and a good introduction for me to Prince. It could even be a good reintroduction to Prince if you decided long ago you didn’t like him.

She echoed my in depth review of ‘Planet Earth’ where I stated that the strength of the album was the multitude of genres and experimentation.
I’m glad JM liked the CD she won, and I’m hoping this will only be the first of many great contests on Brit Music Scene.
