Oasis Refund £1 million – Souvenir Checks Worth Selling

July 15, 2009 by Dave Parrack

Oasis may look stupid – with the mono-browed Neanderthal-looking Gallagher brothers leading the way – but they are actually geniuses. With the need to issue £1 million in refunds to fans who attended their Heaton Park gig in Manchester, they added a flourish to the checks in order to make some fans think twice about cashing them in.

You may recall the run of three Manchester gigs Oasis played at the beginning of June. The second and third gigs went well, but the first was blighted by sound problems, with the band having to leave the stage twice due to the system crashing. When they came back on for the second time, both Noel and Liam intimated that the gig was now free, with anyone who wants a refund getting one.

Out of the 70,000 in attendance on the day, 20,000 people asked for a refund. Which prompted Noel to call them “cheeky c***s” and ask if they were really that disappointed. Not that it should really matter because if you offer someone their money back then you can’t complain when they decide that yes, some free money would be rather nice.

The checks have now gone out to those 20,000 fans. But in a clever twist, although they are legal tender and can be paid into a bank, that may not be the best and most profitable, action to take. The checks were issued with a few extras on them, including a band logo, a “Bank Of Burnage” inscription (Burnage being the part of Manchester where the Gallaghers are from), and Liam and Noel’s signatures.

Those fans now face a decision as to whether to pay the check in and take their £45 refund, keep the check as a piece memorabilia, or try and sell it on eBay. The latter could possibly nab more than the £45 face value, as some people are already selling them and getting offers in excess of that sum.

Didn’t I tell you the Gallaghers were geniuses. Issuing refunds in this way ensures that the £1 million bill Oasis were facing will probably drop substantially as people sell them on or keep hold of them indefinitely instead. That Neanderthal look clearly masks a couple of very intelligent people. Although considering Noel recently confessed to spending £1 million on drugs back in the day, they’re clearly not that sensible with it.

They’re geniuses alright, probably don’t want to pay back the dough. But, hey, it’s all good! If I had a ticket, I’d sell it on E-bay. NG’s been making lots of confessions lately. Wonder whazzup with that? People get older then want to come clean, I guess.

Jess and Joanne, I can’t help I’m afraid.

If I was you I’d give it a few more days and then use the ‘Contact Us’ page on the Web site if you can. Other than that I haven’t a clue.
