Noel Gallagher Reveals His Top Ten Bands Of All Time… Who Oasis Have Ripped Off

Oasis Noel Gallagher Top Ten Bands

I made the last part of the title up but Noel might as well have called his list that. It’s a brilliant top list of bands, but there are some glaring omissions, which makes me wonder how Noel can describe it as “THE DEFINITIVE Top 10″. In your opinion Noel, in your opinion.

Noel and his brother Liam Gallagher have been very vocal of late about their dismissal of current bands. Liam criticised the fans of Coldplay and Radiohead as boring and ugly, and went on to claim not to like modern bands at all. Noel went on a drunken rant about a whole host of artists, with Amy Winehouse, Mark Ronson, and the Kaiser Chiefs getting it with both barrels.

But it’s good to know that Noel DOES like some good bands, as his top ten list, detailed on the Oasis Diary blog, includes some top bands, but omits just as many essential artists.

He built up to the unveiling with this rant…

“In the dressing room the traditional debate has started about ‘The Top 10′. This means the Top 10 bands of all time. No solo artists allowed. No female artists allowed. No collectives allowed (Public Enemy etc.).”

“This is the 1,000th time we’ve been here with this. It never gets any less interesting for me. For the record, THE DEFINITIVE Top 10 is this..”

Here is Noel’s top ten list in full:

1: The Beatles
2: The Rolling Stones
3: The Who
4: Sex Pistols
5: The Kinks
6: The La’s
7: Pink Floyd
8: The Bee Gees
9: The Specials
10: (Peter Green’s) Fleetwood Mac

As I indicated in the title of this post, the list could just as easily be the top ten bands that Oasis have ripped off over the years, with the possible exception of The Bee Gees, but only because Liam’s voice won’t go that high.

Surprise omissions from the list include the Stone Roses, The Verve, The Clash, and Led Zeppelin. There is also a distinct lack of current bands: surely Muse, Arctic Monkeys, Foo Fighters, and the Kings Of Leon deserve their place on the list?

Do you agree with Noel’s selection? Who would be in your top en bands of all time? Is Noel a sexist bastard for banning all female artists from the list? Let me know in the comments section.

Memory lane: Listened to the BeeGees when I was in high school singin’ “How deep is your love?” Decent list of groups but I’d add the Stone Roses and The Smiths, maybe Gladys Knight and the Pips–”Midnight Train to Georgia.” Good song.

. . . and, yeah, it’s all sexist trippin’ with all that British “ladism” shyte going strong. Women rockers take it in stride.

  3. Ryan says:

Stones(They taught rock and rollers how to act), Zep, The Who, Pearl Jam, The Jimi Hendrix Experience, Cream, Pink Floyd, The Yardbirds, Black Sabbath, Tool. The Beatles are so amazingly overrated. Harrison never really got to play guitar with the band. His best work was by far after the Beatles. Honorable mention to the grunge bands.

  4. Jack says:

No room for the Jam, Roses or the Smiths then Noel?
