Liam Gallagher Fears The End Of Oasis

May 12, 2009 by Dave Parrack

Oasis are currently on a world tour in support of their Dig Out Your Soul album, and things aren’t going too smoothly. While it may be all sweetness and light on stage, there seems to be a bust-up in progress backstage.

A week ago, the current row between the Gallagher brothers Liam and Noel seemed to reach fever pitch. Both went public with their feelings on the tour and how relations were strained. And things don’t seem to be getting any better.

The problems seemed to begin when Noel expressed a desire to record and release material as a solo artist rather than as a part of Oasis. Liam clearly isn’t too happy with this idea and recently told Canal Multishow his thoughts on the idea.

“I could do that, but I don’t want to do that. I’m in Oasis, you know what I mean. If everyone starts going off doing solo records then you might as well just f**king split the band up.”

“I’m not about that. I don’t need to be told that I’m the greatest [and say] ‘Look at me, I do everything’. That’s for small people. I’m part of a band and that’s the way it is. If everyone’s going to go off doing solo records then there’s no Oasis. Someone’s gotta be here keeping it together.”

What Liam doesn’t seem to understand is that Noel could quite easily go away and do his solo thing and then come back to Oasis in a few years time completely refreshed and revitalized. Rather than meaning the end of Oasis, it could give the band a new lease of life by releasing the main songwriter for a while to do his own thing.

And you know what? I’d happily buy a solo album by Noel Gallagher as I think it would be excellent. He’s not only the man behind most of the (great) Oasis records, he’s also a fantastic guitarist and not a bad singer either. All the credentials for a solo artist right there.

Liam should probably let his brother have his way because he may find that rallying against it may cause the thing he seems to fear most – the end of Oasis. If Liam is so bothered then why not go away and write his own solo album? That could make for an interesting chart battle.

Noel is a genius, and could easily do both a solo album and be in Oasis. On the other hand I do not think Liam is a genius and he probably feels threatened by Noel “going solo”

Oasis is my fave band, so I don’t want to see them splinter; but, Noel’s got something special and he’s like a bird that needs to fly free. Let him go and maybe he’ll come back stronger than evah.
