Dave Grohl Wants To Drum For Led Zeppelin

January 1, 2008 by Dave Parrack

A lot of musicians rate Led Zeppelin as one of the best bands of all time, and most rock bands would list them as at least part influences on their sound, style, or image. Like The Who, The Beatles, and The Rolling Stones before them, they were one of the British invasion who shaped rock music for the future.

So it’s no surprise to find out that one of the current innovators, Dave Grohl, now of Foo Fighters, and formerly of Nirvana, is a big fan of the band, and lists them as heroes.

What is intriguing however is the rumour that Grohl has expressed an interest in particpating in a Led Zeppelin tour should it ever happen.

He was in attendance at the recent London 02 Arena show, when Led Zeppelin reformed supposedly for one night only, and blew everyone away with the fact that 30 years on, they have lost none of their brilliance.

Unfortunately Grohl wasn’t able to see his all time drumming hero John Bonham playing, but had to settle for his son Jason instead.

A source close to the singer told the Daily Star newspaper:

“He was in the running to take over from John Bonham a few years ago and he’s still gagging to get on stage with the Zep. While he loves playing with the Foo Fighters, Dave would drop anything to be part of Zep’s shows.”

Oh God, please make it happen. No disrespect to Jason, but Grohl is probably the finest drummer alive today, and him on stage with the surviving members of Led Zeppelin would be a virtual match made in heaven.

It’s not beyond the realms of possibility, especially as Grohl has guest drummed for so many other bands in recent years (Queens of the Stone Age, Tenacious D etc).

First though, the Zep need to announce that full tour everyone and their mother is eagerly anticipating.

That would be pretty cool. What would be really neat is if they did a US tour and gave other respectable drummers a chance to play with them.

Led Zeppelin and Nirvana are my favorite bands. That would be so cool if grohl played for zeppilen.
I would pay some big bucks to see that.

To have Dave Grohl to drum for Led Zeppelin would be a collaboration of members from 2 innovative super groups and that would be a spectacle in it self. However to state that “Grohl is probably the finest drummer alive today” is a seriously over estimated and is obviously written by some one wearing top 100 blinkers. No doubt the man can play drums but I think it would be more entertaining for your eyes than your ears… Still it would be something to see!
