Coldplay Working On New Album – Released In 2010?
December 7, 2009 by Dave Parrack
Coldplay are reportedly already working on their next album, and it could be released as early as next year. They may have only just finished their huge world tour in support of Viva La Vida in September but the band almost immediately went back to work. But it could be a different sound this time around.

According to The Sun, Coldplay have moved into a rundown church in North London to work on their new album. Brian Eno, who produced Viva La Vida, is back, and all four band members are said to have thrown themselves into the music.
A source claimed:
“They have hit a rich vein with their songwriting and feel more creative than ever. Chris had wanted to record a new album while they were on the road but it was just too much. They have this work ethic while the going is good to just keep working as hard as possible.”
But why a church? It seems even that is part of the plan and not some celebrity affectation, with Chris wanting to record a more stripped-down, acoustic album this time so that Coldplay don’t get pigeonholed as a stadium act not interested in their true fans. The source explained:
“Chris is determined not to be seen as a huge commercial rock juggernaut, filling stadiums and cashing in. This is the plan to keep them as close to their fans as possible.”
This stripped-down idea was first mentioned back in June when Chris Martin also suggested the album could be “based upon a story idea.” Which sounds like a natural evolution from Viva La Vida to me.
The new album could be released sometime in 2010, with Coldplay seemingly eager to fulfill their contract with EMI as soon as possible so they can strike a new record deal with another label.
