The British Music Experience Review – O2 Music Exhibition
January 19, 2010 by Dave Parrack
British music has been widely recognized and loved around the world since the early 1950s. And sixty years on, each successive decade has proved to be a beast of its own, unique making. The British Music Experience charts these six decades of music in an interactive and entertaining way.
The British Music Experience is a permanent exhibition at the O2 in London. It has made a home in the O2 Bubble, just one small part of the huge complex formerly known as the Millennium Dome, which now has the O2 Arena at its heart.
The British Music Experience opened in March 2009, …read more
Oasis Are Dead – Liam Gallagher Announces End Of Band
October 8, 2009 by Dave Parrack
When Noel Gallagher left Oasis at the end of August it wasn’t clear what the future was for the group. People immediately assumed the band had split, with Noel being an integral part of the whole and his leaving meaning it was all over. But Liam Gallagher and the rest of the band stayed silent on the issue, leading many, me included, to wonder if they were planning to keep Oasis going, albeit without Noel.
Now, after over a month of refusing to answer the very relevant question regarding the future of Oasis, Liam has finally admitted it’s over. He made …read more
Nelly Furtado Mourns Oasis Splitting Up
September 30, 2009 by Dave Parrack
When Oasis split, or when Noel Gallagher quit the band at least, at the end of August, many people were devastated by the news, even if in hindsight it had been a long time coming. To be fair, a lot of people were glad as well, pleased to see what they saw as out-of-date Britpop dinosaurs fall from grace.
Kele Okereke, the lead singer of Bloc Party, was in the latter group, as when he announced Oasis wouldn’t be taking the stage at the Rock en Seine festival he seemed less than cut up by the news. Whereas Ian Brown, formerly …read more
Oasis Make The 2010 Guinness Book of World Records
September 17, 2009 by Dave Parrack
Noel Gallagher may have left, and the fate of the band may now be both unclear and in the hands of the tempestuous hothead Liam, but Oasis are still making history and scoring victories. On the back of two nominations for Q Awards, Oasis have announced their inclusion in the 2010 Guinness Book of World Records.
With Noel’s departure it was assumed Oasis were no more, but there’s still been no concrete word from Liam and his fellow bandmates as to whether they will continue or not. Meanwhile, everything surrounding the band continues on as if nothing had happened. Liam and …read more
Oasis Split! – Noel Gallagher Quits Oasis After Liam Fight
August 28, 2009 by Dave Parrack
Oasis have split up, with Noel Gallagher declaring he had left the group in an official statement issued to the press. The Manchester band were due to perform Rock en Seine festival in Paris tonight (Aug. 28) but canceled just before they were due on stage.
There has been speculation as to what sort of state the band were in for weeks now. Noel and Liam have been having a very public war of words in that time, but it wasn’t known whether this was just their normal brotherly love/hate relationship or something a little more serious.
Last weekend saw the band …read more
Is The Blur Reunion Already Over? – No Future Plans
July 25, 2009 by Dave Parrack
When Blur announced their impending reunion in December of last year, I and many other old-school British music fans whooped with joy. Here were one of the original Britpop bands getting back together after almost a decade apart, and they were set to play comeback gigs and headline some of the summer festivals. What could be better?
Nothing really, except Blur making a new record. Unfortunately, that looks unlikely, and the reunion may already be over. Blur spent the summer playing live to excited crowds in London and Manchester, and at the Glastonbury and T In The Park festivals. At the …read more
Blur Play ‘Last Gig’ – Of All Time Or Just This Summer?
July 13, 2009 by Dave Parrack
Blur announced their intention to reform as a four piece with the original line-up last December. Almost everyone I know was pleased by this, with most wondering why they’d ever split up in the first place. For those who don’t know, it was as a result of a major ruckus between lead singer Damon Albarn and lead guitarist Graham Coxon.
Fast-forward six months to June of this year and Blur completed their comeback by performing live for the first time in almost a decade. Granted, there was only family and friends in attendance, but it was still an event to be …read more
20,000 Oasis Fans Seek Refund – Noel Gallagher Critical
June 20, 2009 by Dave Parrack
Don’t you just hate those people who offer you something and then either revoke the offer or moan about it afterwards. If so, you’ll inevitably dislike Noel Gallagher after he criticized the 20,000 fans who registered for the full refund from one of Oasis’ Manchester homecoming gigs. Why offer it in the first place if you’re then going to bitch about on your blog afterwards?
Oasis played three gigs at Heaton Park in Manchester at the beginning of June. The second and third went off without a hitch but the first was blighted by trouble. First of all, The Enemy pulled …read more
Blur Working On New Material – But It’ll Take Time
June 18, 2009 by Dave Parrack
Blur announced last year they were getting back together to play as a foursome again after a self-imposed exile from the business as Blur. Then last week saw the band complete their comeback by playing together live for the first time in a decade. What’s left to achieve? Well, apart from the huge arena shows and festival headlining slots, there’s the small question of new material, a question which blights any reformed band.
Graham Coxon has already spoken about the possibility of Blur recording music together again, stating back in April that it will likely happen but it won’t be immediately. …read more
Former Guitarist Wishes Oasis Had “Quit After Knebworth”
June 2, 2009 by Dave Parrack
With all the in-fighting, arguments, line-up changes, and controversy surrounding Oasis, I’m personally amazed they have lasted as long as they have. Really, you would have thought something would have had to give by now, with the group falling down like stack of dominoes at the slightest touch. But no, 18 years after being formed, Oasis are still going strong.
So strong in fact that they still manage to sell out huge venues time after time. Oasis announce a tour or concert, and it sell out in a matter of minutes. The music may be generic, Liam’s drawl may now be …read more
