U2, Muse, Stevie Wonder Are Glastonbury Headliners
February 13, 2010 by Dave Parrack
Glastonbury always pulls out massive headliners, and 2010 is no exception. This year’s line-up could even go down in history as the greatest of all time.
The three headliners for the Glastonbury Festival have now been confirmed. U2 will close Friday night, Muse will end Saturday night, and the whole thing will be finished off on Sunday night by the legend that is Stevie Wonder.
U2 were confirmed a while ago, but Muse and Stevie Wonder were just rumors until now.
Unfortunately for anyone who wants to attend the festival on the strength of the headline acts alone, Glastonbury is already sold out. …read more
The Edge: New U2 Album “Something Really Special”
January 23, 2010 by Dave Parrack
I’m really not a fan of U2, but even I, who really wasn’t expecting much, was disappointed by their last album, No Line On The Horizon. It may as well have been named No Good Songs On The Album. And now they’re hard (a relative term) at work on their next LP.
U2 were, at one time, the best rock band in the world. But they lost it. The hype got to them, with Bono in particular thinking he’s something special, some Jesus-like figure sent to Earth in order to do good deeds. And release increasingly sucky music.
It’s as though the …read more
Glastonbury 2010: Rolling Stones No, Dizzee Rascal Yes
January 5, 2010 by Dave Parrack
Glastonbury provides the pinnacle of the UK festival season every year for most people. Glastonbury has been running for years, and has changed a great deal in that time, becoming a much more focused, well-organized (and consequently expensive) event. Glastonbury 2010 is starting to shape up nicely.
U2 have already been confirmed as the first of the three headline acts. They’re not my cup of tea, and are only now gracing the festival with their presence a little after they peaked, yet they’re still a big name likely to draw a huge crowd.
U2 Headlining Glastonbury 2010 – Muse, Bowie Rumored
November 25, 2009 by Dave Parrack
U2 have been confirmed to be headlining Glastonbury 2010. It will be the Irish band’s first appearance at the long-running festival. Although they’ve been rumored to appear multiple times through the years they’ve never actually made the final bill. Muse, David Bowie, Coldplay, and The Rolling Stones are rumored to be joining them on the bill.
Speaking on the event’s official website, Glastonburyfestivals.co.uk, organizer Michael Eavis said:
“I promised the best possible line-up for the show next year and the confirmation that U2 will play their first ever Glastonbury – and their first major festival gig since the early 1980s – is …read more
MTV Europe Music Awards – U2, Pixie Lott, Placebo Win
November 6, 2009 by Dave Parrack
The MTV Europe Music Awards were held last night in Berlin. There were a dearth of British winners, with Beyoncé walking away with three awards and the most successful night of all. She won ‘Best Song’, ‘Best Video’, and ‘Best Female’.
Pixie Lott won the ‘Push Artist’ award which focuses on artists brought to the fore by MTV, while Placebo won the ‘Best Alternative’ prize. U2 represented Ireland by winning ‘Best Live Act’.
The full list of winners and losing nominees is after the cut. Winners highlighted in bold.
U2 Disappointed With ‘No Line On The Horizon’ Sales
October 25, 2009 by Dave Parrack
To say I wasn’t impressed by No Line On The Horizon, U2’s latest album, is a bit of an understatement. When I reviewed it back in February, I ended up scoring it a 3/10 after enduring the ignominy of listening to it a few times straight through. Suffice to say, I haven’t listened to it again since.
I wasn’t alone in not liking the album, with even longtime, die-hard fans expressing their dislike for it. No Line On The Horizon has sold in excess of a million copies, but U2 have now come out to say how disappointed they are by …read more
U2 Gig Streaming Live On YouTube
October 20, 2009 by Dave Parrack
U2 are apparently a joy to behold live. I wouldn’t know, and likely never will, because I’m not a big fan of the generic Irish rockers. But millions are, and the one that can’t make it to a live show will now get the opportunity to see their heroes in concert. Thanks to YouTube.
U2 are due to play a sold-out gig at the Pasadena Rose Bowl in California this Sunday. 90,000 plus will be in attendance but everyone else, at least those who reside in the 16 countries covered, will be able to watch the event live on YouTube. And …read more
MTV Europe VMAs 2009 Nominees – U2, La Roux Fly Flag
September 21, 2009 by Dave Parrack
After the highly controversial MTV VMAs over in the States, which saw Russel Brand’s aggressive presenting style completely overshadowed by Kanye West’s show of douchebaggery, comes the 2009 MTV Europe Music Awards.
Let’s hope Kanye doesn’t show up for this one, although seeing as no one in Europe had heard of Taylor Swift until she came face to face with him there’s unlikely to be a repeat of the incident.
Rather than focus on European acts, the MTV Europe Music Awards seems to be full of U.S. acts, which kind of makes me wonder why MTV bother having a separate awards …read more
U2 World Tour – May God Have Mercy
March 9, 2009 by Dave Parrack
The inevitable has happened – U2 have announced a world tour to support their new album, No Line On The Horizon. Shock. Horror. Surprise. After seemingly being everywhere at once in order to promote the new album, they’re now heading out on the road.
The tour is expected to take in the UK, Europe, and North America. Other territories could then be added at a later date. This is the first chance U2 fans have had to see their heroes up close and personal since the Vertigo tour in 2005/2006.
The tour is set to kick off in Europe, with a huge …read more
As If One New U2 Album Wasn’t Enough…
March 4, 2009 by Dave Parrack
U2 disappear off the face of the planet, well apart from those do-gooding bouts of guilt-tripping us ordinary folk that Bono seems to think are a good idea every now and then, for five years. Which was good of them.
But now, not content with releasing one terrible album, U2 are planning on releasing another. Which will probably be just as terrible as No Line On The Horizon. The new album will be called Songs Of Ascent and is due for release before the end of 2009.
Songs Of Ascent is being billed as a sister release or companion album to No …read more
