2009 saw talk of a new Spice Girls reunion. It then became clear that rather than a full tour, the group were planning something else, maybe a one-off event such as the London 2012 Olympic Games. In the end, it appears the Spice Girls won’t actually be directly involved at all.

In November, The Sun reported that a musical was being created based on the Spice Girls, their career, and their music. I didn’t believe the story at the time, but Digital Spy is now reporting that Simon Fuller has confirmed it is happening.

September saw two of the Spice Girls, in the form of Mel B and Geri Halliwell, teasing that the group could be about to announce plans to get together. Victoria Beckham AKA Posh Spice later denied knowledge of any plans. But Simon Fuller, the man who engineered the Spice Girls’ rise to fame, thinks there could be something in the offing.

Fuller is the former manager of the Spice Girls and current boss of talent agency 19. He thinks the 2012 Olympic Games, due to held in London, would be the perfect venue for the second comeback of the Spice Girls.

We’ve so far had two Spice Girls teasing us with details of a new Spice Girls reunion. Yes, a new one, even though the first one only happened two years ago and ended rather badly. Oh man, this is now getting serious. While just one of the former Spice Girls was talking about a new reunion it seemed nothing more than wishful thinking. You may remember that the last Spice Girls reunion was an absolute shambles. It started off well, with a great buzz, awesome ticket sales, and even a not-too-bad comeback single. And then midway through the sellout world tour, the girls decided to call it a day, split again, and disappoint millions of fans. The last two years have seen a slew of British groups reform, some in order to give the fans what they want, and some in order to make a quick buck (cough Spice Girls cough). But there are still many bands resisting the urge, and the calls from fans to reunite.
