The Public Demands Led Zeppelin Reform

The Public Demands Led Zeppelin Reform

The last two years have seen a slew of British groups reform, some in order to give the fans what they want, and some in order to make a quick buck (cough Spice Girls cough). But there are still many bands resisting the urge, and the calls from fans to reunite.
This lead me to ask: Which group would you most like to see reform? Most of the answers were predictable, as was the share of voting, but there were a few surprises. First, the results in full.

The Smiths and The Libertines Reforming? No On Both Counts

The Smiths and The Libertines Reforming? No On Both Counts

I admit to being a little obsessed with seeing old groups reform. And hearing that Limp Bizkit and Blink 182 are doing just that over in the States doesn’t help with my problem. Unfortunately, it looks as though the great British reforming trend we’ve recently seen has come to an end. Although some people will be pleased to hear this.
I loved seeing Led Zeppelin reform, even though it was for one night only. Then there was The Verve, The Police, Blur, Take That, and a host of other brilliant groups getting back together. And of Spice Girls had a crack …read more

Take That & Robbie Top Reunion Poll – Beating Led Zep, Smiths, Stone Roses

Take That & Robbie Top Reunion Poll – Beating Led Zep, Smiths, Stone Roses

Band reunions are a strange beast: they are a mix of doing it for the fans and doing it for the money, they rarely last very long, and they even more rarely live up to expectations. But despite all of this, millions of people want to see their favorite groups reform.
British groups seem to be making a habit of reforming. Since I’ve been writing Brit Music Scene, we have seen The Verve, Boyzone, Led Zeppelin (for a one off concert), The Police, The Sex Pistols, The Spice Girls, Blur, and Take That all get back together in some form.
Then there …read more

Brit Music Scene Review Of The Year 2008 – Part Four: October to December

2009 has arrived so I’m actually overdue in rounding up my best of Brit Music Scene from 2008. Here we finally make it to the end of 2008 with the biggest stories and talking points between the months of October and December
October
The month began with Rick Astley unbelievably being named Best Act Ever by MTV. Meanwhile, Led Zeppelin were threatening to tour with a new lead singer in place of Robert Plant, and Pete Kay beat Leon Jackson in the charts.
There were rumors that The long-awaited Smiths reunion could finally be happening, but it still hasn’t yet. The Ting Tings …read more

First Blur, Now The Smiths and Stone Roses?

First Blur, Now The Smiths and Stone Roses?

Reforming is obviously the thing to do now. We’ve already seen Take That make a successful comeback, The Spice Girls a less successful one, and The Police reforming and then splitting up again. We’ve also seen Boyzone reform even though no-one asked them to, and Led Zeppelin announce plans to tour and release new material even though Robert Plant won’t be involved.
Then, more recently we learned about The Faces making plans, and just last week, Blur announced they were reforming after Damon Albarn and Graham Coxon put their differences aside to work together again. So, who is next? Could it …read more

The Perfect Present For Barack Obama – Albums By The Smiths, Radiohead & Gorillaz

What do you buy the man who has everything? OK, Barack Obama may not have everything but becoming the first ever black President of the United States is sure to have made most of his dreams come true. He’s also got a beautiful wife, and lovely kids. So what to get him?
David Cameron, the leader of the Conservative party opposition to Gordon Brown’s Labour Government, thinks he knows. The New Statesman reports that Cameron gave Obama the gift of British music when the pair met up in July, passing on albums by The Smiths, Radiohead, Gorillaz, and Lily Allen.

The Smiths Reunion Finally Happening?

The Smiths Reunion Finally Happening?

The Smiths were, without a doubt, one of the most influential bands to emerge from Britain in the past 30 years. They were at the forefront of the Manchester scene, the alternative scene, and the independent scene, all of which have continued without them since they split up in 1987.

Fast forward twenty years to the present day and the band have turned down several offers to reform for one-off gigs, which they would have been paid a fortune to play. But now, according to a report in The Sun, The Smiths reunion could finally be about to happen, with a …read more

Johnny Marr Doesn’t Rule Out Smiths Reunion With Morrissey

Johnny Marr, former Smiths guitarist has spoken about the possibility of The Smiths possibly reforming in the future.
Marr, who was recently appointed as a professor of music at the University of Salford, has said that he’s very open to the possibility of the British Eighties super group reforming.
He told BBC Five Live:
“Stranger things have happened so, you know, who knows?”
“It’s no biggy. Maybe we will in 10 or 15 years’ time when we all need to for whatever reasons, but right now Morrissey is doing his thing and I’m doing mine, so that’s the answer really.”
Marr now plays with …read more
