Royal Mail Stamp Collection Features Classic Album Covers

Some album covers are instantly forgettable, and only there to liven up an otherwise boring piece of plastic. But some go beyond their intent, and become art that inspires people and sums up periods in their life. And the Royal Mail are now celebrating these album covers with a new collection of stamps.

The album covers being featured in the Classic Album Covers series of stamps are:

Blur – ‘Parklife’
Coldplay – ‘A Rush of Blood to the Head’
David Bowie – ‘The Rise And Fall Of Ziggy Stardust And The Spiders From Mars’

Glastonbury 2010: Rolling Stones No, Dizzee Rascal Yes

Glastonbury provides the pinnacle of the UK festival season every year for most people. Glastonbury has been running for years, and has changed a great deal in that time, becoming a much more focused, well-organized (and consequently expensive) event. Glastonbury 2010 is starting to shape up nicely.

U2 have already been confirmed as the first of the three headline acts. They’re not my cup of tea, and are only now gracing the festival with their presence a little after they peaked, yet they’re still a big name likely to draw a huge crowd.

U2 Headlining Glastonbury 2010 – Muse, Bowie Rumored

U2 have been confirmed to be headlining Glastonbury 2010. It will be the Irish band’s first appearance at the long-running festival. Although they’ve been rumored to appear multiple times through the years they’ve never actually made the final bill. Muse, David Bowie, Coldplay, and The Rolling Stones are rumored to be joining them on the bill.

Speaking on the event’s official website, Glastonburyfestivals.co.uk, organizer Michael Eavis said:
“I promised the best possible line-up for the show next year and the confirmation that U2 will play their first ever Glastonbury – and their first major festival gig since the early 1980s – is …read more

Brit Music Scene Review Of The Year 2008 – Part One: January To March

2009 is approaching fast and so it’s time to look back at 2008. Here we’ll see the high and lowlights of the first three months of the year, with a selection of stories we covered between January and March.
January
The month began with Queen being named as the best British band of all time, beating The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, Take That, and Oasis. Sad news in the middle of the month when Lily Allen suffered a miscarriage. She later split with boyfriend Ed Simons.
Geri Halliwell claimed that the Spice Girls wouldn’t make a penny from their huge world tour despite …read more

Noel Gallagher Claims Oasis Are As Big As The Rolling Stones

Noel Gallagher Claims Oasis Are As Big As The Rolling Stones

Noel Gallagher has never been short of a thing or two to say, some of which are intelligent, well-meaning things, and others which aren’t quite as sensible. On this occasion, what he’s said in an interview with Rolling Stone magazine has to be filed in the latter section.
As part of an interview discussing topics as diverse as Ryan Adams, the Toronto attack, and drugs, Gallagher claimed that Oasis are now as big as The Rolling Stones, a British band known and respected the world over, and who can still sell out massive stadiums, despite all being over the age of …read more

Noel Gallagher Reveals His Top Ten Bands Of All Time… Who Oasis Have Ripped Off

Noel Gallagher Reveals His Top Ten Bands Of All Time… Who Oasis Have Ripped Off

I made the last part of the title up but Noel might as well have called his list that. It’s a brilliant top list of bands, but there are some glaring omissions, which makes me wonder how Noel can describe it as “THE DEFINITIVE Top 10″. In your opinion Noel, in your opinion.
Noel and his brother Liam Gallagher have been very vocal of late about their dismissal of current bands. Liam criticised the fans of Coldplay and Radiohead as boring and ugly, and went on to claim not to like modern bands at all. Noel went on a drunken rant …read more

Rolling Stones Leave EMI For Universal – Follow Radiohead, McCartney Out The Door

The members of the Rolling Stones may all be in their sixties, but they are still one of the most commercially-viable bands around at the moment. Which makes their defection from EMI to Universal a big blow to the former, and a massive boost to the latter.
The Rolling Stones have become the third big British act to leave EMI in the last year, following fellow sixties artist Paul McCartney, and alternative indie rockers Radiohead out of the door. The Rolling Stones have moved to the Universal Music Group, the biggest record label in the world, and have signed a deal …read more

Is Mick Jagger Gay? – Rolling Stones Band Mate Keith Richards Questions Sexuality

Keith Richards has seen fit to question the sexuality of Rolling Stone band mate Mick Jagger, and after over 40 years of sharing sexual partners, there’s not anyone who would know better than Richards.
According to the NME, Richards gave an interview to GQ magazine in support of the release of Shine A Light, the Martin Scorsese directed documentary which is due in theatres from April 4th.
When asked about the rumours of Jagger’s sexuality over the years, Richards said:
“I really have no idea if anyone ever shoved it up the shitter. I’m not there watching it every day. But there was, …read more

Keith Richards Loves Amy Winehouse – Warns Her Off Drugs & He Should Know

If you’re Amy Winehouse, and are seeing your career suffer (in some ways, and improve in others) thanks to being addicted to drink and drugs, and that rock ‘n’ roll lifestyle, who would be the best person to advise you? Someone who’d been there, and done that of course.
Step forward Keith Richards, the Rolling Stone with the worst reputation for being a big party animal.
64 year old Keith Richards, so he’s eligible for a free bus pass, gave an interview to the Mail On Sunday in which they asked him about which current musicians he rates.
He replied:
“There’s only one …read more

Mick Jagger Was Targeted By Hells Angels

Mick Jagger Was Targeted By Hells Angels

A BBC documentary has claimed that Mick Jagger, lead singer of The Rolling Stones, was targeted by the Hells Angels, who allegedly planned an assassination attempt on him.
The Radio 4 documentary, which is part of ‘The FBI at 100‘ series, sees former FBI agent Mark Young reveal the plot to get the ultimate revenge on the big lipped front man after he fired the motorcycle gang’s security forces from taking care of any more of the band’s gigs.
This came after an 18 year old fan was stabbed to death at a free concert in Altamont, California during December 1969.
