Stephen Gately, former singer with Irish boyband Boyzone, tragically died in the early hours of Saturday morning. He was on holiday in Majorca with his civil partner Andrew Cowles when tragedy struck. The results of the autopsy have now been revealed, and it confirms Gately died of natural causes.

According to BBC News, the natural cause in this case refers to a pulmonary oedema, which sees fluid build up on the lungs. Stephen Gately has died at the tender age of just 33 while on holiday in Majorca. He leaves behind his husband Andrew Cowles, who he married in a civil ceremony in London in 2006. Gately came out as gay in 1999, and was widely respected for doing so. Boyzone split a year later but reformed last year for a comeback tour.

Reports suggest Gately died in his sleep after a night out. His death is not being treated as suspicious but there are no more details being released about what could have caused his death at such a young age.

Back in November of last year, Boyzone announced they were getting back together, and I wrote a post titled ‘Boyzone Announce Reunion – Noooooooooooooooooo!’ to show the level of my displeasure at the thought.
At the time, the reunion was just a one-off for Children In Need, but unfortunately, the 30-somethings from Ireland who still insist on calling themselves “boys” have now announced a summer tour around the UK. Great, I’m ecstatic at the thought.
